Ask a Question

Is there a question about astronomy that you want answered? If so, why not ask us? We will try to do our best to answer anything, so long as...

  • The question is relevant to astronomy or related fields of science such as optics, relativity or astrobiology.

  • The answer isn't readily available. We don't mind answering very basic questions, so long as at least some effort has been put into finding an answer.

  • The question isn't about the paranormal. This is not the place to ask about astrology, alien abductions or similar topics. The possibility of extra terrestrial life however, is a perfectly acceptable topic.

  • The question isn't blatantly homework. We don't mind answering questions relating to homework, but we wont do the work for you.

Please note that this is a voluntary service. We can't ensure a reply, nor do we guarantee that the information given in answers is absolutely correct. Replies are given as favours rather than an obligation, so please don't be offended if we are unable to help.

3. How much do you know already?

In order to give a useful answer, we need a rough idea of how much you know already.

Select the category that best describes your level of astronomical knowledge...

I know very little about astronomy.

I have a basic understanding of the layout of our solar system and its place in our galaxy and the universe.

I have a general qualitative knowledge of astronomy and related fields of physics, for example the nature of stars and the electromagnetic spectrum.

I have a relatively detailed and often quantitative knowledge of astronomy and related fields of physics, for example spectral classes of stars and orbital mechanics.
